Abstract:

This dataset provides spatiotemporal variables related to the Water-Use Efficiency (WUE), and is based on Community Land Model version 5 simulations with COSMO Reanalysis 6 forcings for the EUROCORDEX domain and for the period 1995-2018. It comprises NetCDF files containing variables to calculate three Water-Use Efficiency metrics (Ecosystem Water-Use Efficiency, Transpiration Water-Use Efficiency, and Inherent Water-Use Efficiency) and also Gross Primary Production (GPP), Evapotranspiration (ET), Transpiration (Tr), and Vapor Pressure Deficit. Additional controlling variables are also included, such as Soil Moisture, Precipitation, Vegetation, and Soil Carbon pools. Finally, GPP, ET, and Tr variables are also provided on the Plant Functional Type (PFT) sub-grid level, resolving the grid-cell averages to each present PFT. The dataset is from processed CLM5-BGC simulations. The postprocessing involved resampling to 8-daily means for compatibility with many contemporary remote sensing products. The relative coverage of the PFTs in each grid cell is indicated in the surface information variables, which must be scaled by the share of natural vegetation land unit in the grid cell. Similarly, the present crop types must be scaled with the present cropland land unit in the grid cell. Further information is provided by Poppe Terán et al. 2025, in the CLM5 description paper, and in the CLM5 technical note. The dataset is related to the Climate-Water-Food Research Challenge of the eLTER PLUS project. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 871128 (eLTER PLUS).
