This is a data set of the manuscript 'Opposite signs in local and nonlocal soil moisture-precipitation couplings across Europe', submitted to Geophysical Research Letters. It contains data from a convection-permitting (CP) simulation across central Europe. The simulation was performed with the Weather Research and Forecasting modeling system (WRF) model, version 3.8.1, using the Advanced Research dynamical core. It was driven by the ERA-Interim reanalysis and covers the years 2000 to 2014, providing hourly estimates of several Earth system variables on a rotated latitude-longitude grid of 0.0275 degrees (~3 km). The simulation is part of the first multi-model ensemble of regional climate simulations at kilometer-scale resolution (Coppola et al., 2018; Ban et al., 2021; Pichelli et al., 2021). More information on the simulation can be found in (Ban et al., 2021).
This data set contains the variables

- Near-Surface Specific Humidity (huss),
- Total water content of first soil layer (mrsol),
- Water Vapor Path (prw),
- Surface Air Pressure (ps),
- Surface Downwelling Longwave Radiation (rlds),
- Surface Downwelling Shortwave Radiation (rsds),
- Snow Area Fraction (snc),
- Near-Surface Air Temperature (tas),
- Eastward wind at 100m (ua100m),
- Northward wind at 100m (va100m), and
- Height of boundary layer (zmla)
for times between 8 am and 7 pm of the months June, July and August of the years 2000 to 2014. Further it contains the variable
- Precipitation (pr)
for times between 8 am and 11 pm of the months June, July and August of the years 2000 to 2014.
Lastly, it contains the fix variable
- Surface Altitude (orog).
